Conservative HQ Grand Opening was held July 19
Area conservative groups, including the local Tea Party group known as the Northwoods Patriots and Republican organizations including the Vilas County Republicans and Republican Women of the North, held the grand opening of their new headquarters at 155 S Railroad Street in Eagle River. All members and voters were invited to an Open House to celebrate the opening of the new headquarters on Monday, July 19.
Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Candidate Dave Ross, the current Mayor of Superior, spoke to the group, sharing his values, accomplishments and conservative vision for our state. As Lt Governor he intends to support the efforts of the new Governor and be an advocate for small business as the state works to rebuild its employment base and foster economic growth.
Dan Meyer also spoke to our group, sharing his frustration as member of the minority in the Assembly working to keep the spending and legislating in check and his optimism for the sessions ahead where conservatives need to be effective leaders.
Various campaign literature and yard signs were distributed as the groups work to promote conservative candidates in the upcoming primary September 14 and general election November 2. Field representatives from Terri McCormick’s congressional campaign were present at the HQ to talk with attendees and distribute campaign literature. Candidates who are members of the Northwoods Patriots or Republican Party are invited to provide their literature for display (see Vilas GOP memo to members regarding our rationale for supporting candidates). An large array of Northwoods Patriot and new Republican clothing was and continues to be available at the Headquarters.
While the three groups maintain separate memberships, meeting schedules and initiatives, they share common goals of conservatism and adherence to our US Constitution. The new Conservative Headquarters will be the host location to future meetings for each of the three groups and has separate membership literature to promote their unique positions and initiatives. All are invited to attend and bring friends and neighbors who would like to get involved in the conservative movement.
The convenient downtown headquarters is situated between D&S Mobil and Alexander’s Pizza, with plenty of free parking right across the street.

A message to members of the Vilas County Republican Party

A message to members of the Vilas County Republican Party:
(Delivered at the Grand Opening of the Conservative HQ July 19)
As the elected leaders of the Vilas County Republican Party, we would like to take this opportunity to clarify for the public our rationale for how we decide to treat prospective candidates running under the republican brand. Because Vilas County has historically trended towards the Republican side of the ticket, it is a common practice for local candidates to declare as Republicans simply because it is in their political best interest to do so, and not necessarily because they adhere to Republican ideals such as smaller government, free markets, or lower taxation. For many years, local candidates unknown to us have come forward just months before an election, proclaiming their credentials as Republicans and asking for our support, only to disappear once the election is over and remain unseen until the next election cycle comes around. And although we as the party leadership ultimately have no say in who decides to run under the Republican name sake, we will, to the best of our ability, give support to those candidates who have established Republican credentials and who we believe best represent the ideals of the Republican Party. How does one establish such credentials? First and foremost, a person should be a dues paying member in good standing with the Vilas County Republicans and or, the Wisconsin GOP or National GOP. Second, and perhaps most important, a person needs to show up to our meetings and to our events long before they decide to run for office. From the organization and planning that goes into the Lincoln Day Dinner or The Great Debate, to the preparations for the 4th of July parades, many hard working volunteers work selflessly year in and year out to ensure the Republican Party is well represented here in Vilas County. If a person joins us in such efforts, and establishes that their views are in line with ours, we will do the best that we can to support them when they decide to run for office. But understand that we believe the greatest mistake the Republican Party has made in recent years is the practice of supporting candidates simply because they claim to be Republicans. We believe that in order to truly reform our country for the better, we must first ensure that the candidates being put forth by the party are true conservatives, and not those simply using the party name to attain public office. Lacking other means, one of the best ways of accomplishing this is to support those people who have come to the Republican Party asking how they can help us, and not those who come to us looking to help them.

On June 15th Gary Meinert will be the guest speaker at a joint meeting of the Vilas County Republicans and the Northwoods Patriots. Mr. Meinert has spent 8 months a year for the past 5 years living 36 miles from the Mexican border with Arizona near Nogales Mexico. He has been photographing and documenting the illegal activities of the Mexican cartels and their drug trafficking. He travels the 1,100 square miles of the inhospitable Sonoran desert, almost always off trails. He serves on the Citizens Advisory Board of the Nogales Border Patrol Station. He has developed mutual trust and respect with many officials, including the ranking officers of the Border Patrol, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and many deputies of the various County Sheriff’s Departments. He recently spent 30 minutes at a meeting with Arizona Governor Brewer to discuss SB1070 and it’s affect on Arizona. VILAS COUNTY REPUBLICANS TO MEET April 19
The monthly meeting of the Vilas County Republicans will be held:
Monday, April 19th, 6:30pm
at Wild Eagle Lodge
Eagle River, WI
We will start at 6:30 and have a full agenda, so plan on being there on time.
Our Wisconsin Assemblyman Dan Meyer will share information on what’s going on in Madison. In particular he will be informing us about the Wisconsin Voter Protection Act. This is a fancy name to cover up one of the biggest voter registration scams ever conceived and being pushed on a straight party line vote by the Democrats.
In addition to Dan, we will hear from James Maillette who is a candidate for Vilas County Sheriff. Our current sheriff is not running for reelection.
We will have a report on the Tea Party Express stop that took place in Bessemer, MI on Thursday, April 8th. There were over 500 enthusiastic Wisconsinites and Michiganders standing for several hours in freezing conditions to cheer the message. Was it a coincidence that the following morning Bart Stupik announced that he would not run for reelection? We look forward to seeing large crowd.
Refreshments will be served. If you have questions, contact Jim Knuth at 715-686-7746, or explore our Vilas GOP website at www.vilas.wisgop.info.

The 2010 elections will be historically significant for our country and our children’s future. Come hear Terri McCormick’s ideas for WI’s 8th District representation in Washington and what needs to be done to restore our government to its Constitutional principles.

FEINGOLD HOLDS LISTENING SESSIONS
IN VILAS AND FOREST COUNTIES ON MARCH 20
U.S. Senator Russ Feingold will hold listening sessions in Vilas and Forest Counties on Saturday, March 20. Senator Feingold has pledged to hold listening sessions in all of Wisconsin’s 72 counties each year of his six-year term and this will be the Senator’s 18th year of holding listening sessions. These sessions will mark the 32nd and 33rd listening sessions of 2010 and the 1256th and 1257th since 1993. If constituents need special accommodations at the listening sessions they should contact Senator Feingold’s Middleton office at 608-828-1200.
His Vilas County listening session will be held at 12:00 p.m. in the Gymnasium at the St. Germain Community Center, 545 Highway 155, St. Germain. The meeting will last up to an hour.
His Forest County listening session will be held at 3:15 p.m. in the Auditorium at Crandon High School, 9750 US Highway 8 West, Crandon. The meeting will last up to an hour.
“I look forward to meeting with constituents in Vilas and Forest counties, as I learn more at these town meetings than I learn anywhere else,” Feingold said. “In order for me to be an effective legislator, I need to hear from the people I represent and they deserve every opportunity to let me know directly what they think about a particular issue. This is democracy in action and I am grateful to all those who take time out of their busy schedules to come to my meetings and let me know about the issues important to them. The feedback I receive is essential to my job as a U.S. Senator.”
NOTE: SENATOR FEINGOLD WILL BE AVAILABLE TO MEET WITH THE MEDIA FOR A SHORT TIME PRIOR TO THE LISTENING SESSIONS.
